In our culture the past is behind and the future is ahead. Others have believe the inverse, which makes sense, we cannot see into the future as we cannot see behind us and we can view our past as we can see ahead of us.

In terms of reflection the other makes more sense, in terms of sequencing our own does. So if these are the predominant concepts of a culture then that what does this say about their concepts of life/time/ etc.
